HIP HOP

Hip Hop is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to create a cultural piece of art. Through its three main styles of popping, locking, and breaking, hip-hop dance has evolved into one of the most popular and influential styles of dance. Hip Hop is displayed in shows such as World Of Dance, So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. The hip-hop culture is influenced by the following four elements: disc jockeys (DJs), graffiti (art), MCs (rappers), and B-boys and B-girls (dancers).

JAZZ

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz dancing is fun and energetic. It consists of turns, leaps, jumps and kicks. Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. Jazz teams use popular and current trending music as well as vibrant and uniquely designed costumes.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

Popular to audiences and dancers alike, it portrays the world through the eyes of the dancer, their experiences, stories, and emotions.

Lyrical/Contemporary is free-form style is a fusion of ballet, modern and jazz technique. Lyrical encourages dancers to find inspiration from their life experiences and convey this through their movement and performance. Lyrical often includes many forms of turns, jettes, kicks, rolls and jumps.

Lyrical/Contemporary is a beautiful style of dance which allows dancers to explore both soft and sharp movements.

BALLET

Ballet is said to be a combination of choreography and art, scenic design, lighting, costume, graceful movements and usually solemn music. It is an artistic dance like no other, that can be used to express different emotions or to tell a story. Ballet is the true foundation of all dance styles. Ballet teaches poise, strength, flexibility, technique and control.

ACRO/TUMBLING

“Acro” short for Acrobatics teaches students to perform skills such as, forward rolls, cartwheels, handsprings and more! Acro teaches the foundations of gymnastics on both a dance floor as well as a blow up tumble air track to ensure the safety of all students.
